The Ludington Guard band was officially organized in 1888 but has roots dating to 1877. From a small group modeled after military bands to a modern concert band of over 60 members, the band has gone through many changes over the years, but it has always provided summer concerts for the Menomonie community. Today, the Ludington Guard Band performs 10 concerts every summer at the bandshell in Wilson Park, and occasionally puts on extra concerts in other venues or as part of other events.
A Ludington Guard Band concert is a community event that brings people from all walks of life to Wilson Park in downtown Menomonie for an evening of music. It is as much a social event as it is a concert. During the concerts, local organizations offer pie, popcorn, and other treats to snack on while you enjoy the music. Although benches are provided in the park, seating is limited so many concert-goers bring their own chairs or blankets to sit out on the grass.
